Cowboy Katter

This week's Spectator cover was very fun to draw: Independent and Australian Party leader Bob Katter riding into town. "Cowboy Katter" art for The Spectator Australia © Anton Emdin 2011. All rights reserved.

Here's an excerpt of the article by Dean Bertram:

But beyond politics, Katter evokes a certain emotional response. As Willie Nelson crooned: “My heroes have always been cowboys, and they still are it seems”. Bob's big ole' Akubra represents an almost forgotten ethos of straight-talk, common-sense, and self-reliance; an image backed-up by the man's words and deeds. Indeed, Katter is the very embodiment of those rural qualities that cause most urban sophisticates to shudder. Add to this his Australian Party's list of “core values and principles” - which includes governing in accordance with the nation's Christian heritage, protecting the right to hunt and shoot, defining marriage as a “union of a man and a woman”, and a policy to oppose or overturn a carbon tax/ETS - and you have a potent tonic that's guaranteed to make the chattering class choke on their lattes.
