Obama and the Big Green Car
Another busy Spectator week! I was commissioned to draw both the UK and Australian covers - both due on the same day... Eeek! So after a VERY late night, I present President Obama for the UK edition (The only brief I received was the headline: "No He Can't"), below:
It was kinda sad to draw this. I'm not entrenched in US politics, but it seems like Obama was never really able to satisfy his voters - or perhaps his Presidency was so over-hyped that his term has been an anti-climax. Whatever the details, here we have Obama limping away on his donkey. Please click for a closer view.
And for the Australian Edition I illustrated Derek Parker's article on Labor's doomed alliance with The Greens, below. Again, please click for a closer view...
After seeing the UK cover on the US Election, the Australian Editor decided to use that as the cover, too - and the Big Green Car art was used inside the magazine instead.
Update: Needed to make a revision to the Obama art - the article was more focussed on Mitt Romney than originally thought, so I was asked to add his face to one of the vultures. Below is the published cover with the revised art - available now in the UK and Australian Editions.
As usual, The Spectator is available from all good newsagents, and as an app from iTunes.
Thanks for looking - I'm off to get some sleep now!
Cheers, Anton
